Chippewa Falls (WI) Fire Department Restoring 1954 Apparatus

A 1954 fire truck with a Darley pump that was used by the Chippewa Falls (WI) Fire Department until its 1987 trade-in is returning to the city, reports chippewa.com.

After finding it sitting in a field, area firefighters purchased the truck for $1,500 in 2010 and have since been restoring it. The report says the apparatus has been stored in numerous places over the past decade.

Once fully restored, the apparatus will be on public display at the new Chippewa Area History Center, which is under construction but slated to open next spring, the report says.

The truck—24 feet long and eight feet tall and wide—was constructed by Four Wheel Drive Auto Company. The engine, the original, was built in Waukesha, according to the report. It’s a fully functional truck, except that it doesn’t pump water, officials say.

It’s currently at Legacy Painting & Sideblasting in Galesville getting a new paint job, and officials expect to take delivery of it later this month. Then, finishing touches such as lights and bumpers will be added.

The cities of Marion (SC) and Mullins were selected to receive $500,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding, reports scnow.com, which will be used toward the purchase of a new apparatus for each department.

Officials say the new apparatus will help maintain an ISO Class 3 rating. The Marion Fire Department last unveiled a new apparatus back in December 2018.

Mullins officials say they have purchased two new trucks that should arrive in March 2022—a commercial pumper tanker and custom rescue pumper, along with a refurbished tanker.

The Mullins Fire Department added its first aerial in March 2019, the report says.

Great Progress on Tampa (FL) Fire Rescue Station 25

Tampa Fire Rescue Chief Barbara Tripp addresses the media alongside Councilman Luis Viera and Rep. Kathy Castor about the progress being made on the construction of Fire Station 25.

The City of Tampa and Tampa (FL) Fire Rescue are making great progress in the transformation of Fire Station 25, where construction has already started to convert the existing building into an exclusive “rescue station” to serve North Tampa.

In September, Tampa City Council approved around $3.4M to provide Fire Station 25 with four additional personnel and two new rescue cars. This newly renovated fire station will play a pivotal role in easing the burden on surrounding fire stations and protecting families in North Tampa.

Fire Station 25 will operate solely as a rescue station, which means trained firefighter paramedics assigned there will solely respond to ill and injured patients with ambulances. This is especially critical for this area of North Tampa, where around 85 percent of the calls for service are medical.

“We are excited to see the progress happening in Station 25,” Chief Barbara Tripp said. “Even as we continue to gather data to ensure Tampa has America’s best fire rescue department, we are improving service to meet our community’s needs. This new station will allow us to continue to shorten our response times in a fast-growing area of Tampa.”

The renovation of Fire Station 25 will specifically help support Fire Station 13, one of the busiest fire stations in the country.

“For too long the men and women of Fire Station 13 have carried a disproportionately heavy burden of service calls,” said Councilman Luis Viera, who serves this part of North Tampa. “These hard-fought-for improvements will go a long way to providing much-needed relief to the firefighters working in North Tampa and the residents they serve. I thank Mayor Castor and Chief Tripp for their collaboration and leadership in making these critical improvements in public safety.”

Fire Station 25, located at 710 E. Fairbanks, is at the old Fire Station 11. Before construction began, the Tampa Police Department’s K9 Unit was utilizing the building for training.

These were funds that came about due to federal American Rescue Plan (ARPA) Act money, supported by U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor (FL14).
