'We found it sitting in a field': 1954 fire truck to make its return to a Wisconsin fire department

PHOTO: A 1954 fire truck that was used by the Chippewa Falls Fire Department until it was sold in 1987 is returning to the city, and when the public gets a chance to see it, the antique vehicle will look shiny new. The fire truck has been restored and will be on display at the new Chippewa Area History Center that is under construction along Bridgewater Avenue.

New state budget approval gives North Carolina firefighters help with cancer care

Millions of financial support for North Carolina firefighters fighting cancers will be available at the start of 2022 as part of the newly approved state budget. Studies show firefighters are 9% more likely to get cancer compared to everyone else, and 14% more likely to die from cancer. With the use of $15 million, the goal is to save firefighters' lives by helping to cover the cost of the cancer treatments that are necessary.

Paramedics in one Texas city using video chat to coach bystanders during 911 calls

VIDEO: People who dial 911 from a cell phone in San Antonio may video chat with an emergency dispatcher. To connect, callers must only click on the link the dispatcher sends, sometimes seconds after they pick up the phone. This 'GoodSAM' technology allows trained paramedics to coach bystanders through life-saving procedures while first responders are en route.

Finding a way: Grant County Fire District 7 firefighters learn grant writing to get new gear

Grant County Fire District 7 (GCFD7) will receive four sets of new bunker gear, as it is one of 13 volunteer fire departments nationwide selected to receive the gear from a grant from Mine Safety Appliances, DuPont and the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC). Non-profit pays off mortgage for family of fallen Spokane County firefighter

Nothing will bring back Spokane County firefighter Cody Traber, but one non-profit is hoping to make life a bit easier for his family. Lieutenant Traber worked for Spokane County Fire District 9. He died in the line of duty this past August when responding to a brush fire. While investigating, he fell from the Wandermere Bridge.
