Unity (ME) Fire Department Raising Money to Replace 1980 American LaFrance Ladder Truck

The Unity (ME) Fire Department is raising money to replace its 1980 American LaFrance ladder truck, reports waldo.villagesoup.com.

During an emergency call on July 4, 2019, the apparatus blew a radiator hose and repairs don’t make fiscal sense, the report says. The department bought the truck in 2009 from the Hamilton (MA) Fire Department for $5,000.

A new truck could range anywhere between $950,000 to $1.3 million. The report notes fire officials have also been researching used trucks in the $25,000-to-$50,000 ballpark.

Fire commissioners in one rural Spokane County district won't follow vaccine mandates, blaming personnel shortage

For Spokane County Fire District 2 Commissioner David Degon, Washington's vaccine mandate creates a stark choice. In the all-volunteer fire department south of Spokane already light on medical responders, what happens if the only firefighter who can respond to an emergency is unvaccinated? "Do we not respond and let somebody die?" Degon says.
