City of Walla Walla approves 3-year contract with firefighter's union

The Walla Walla City Council on Wednesday, Nov. 17, unanimously approved a $15 million, three-year contract with firefighters, providing cost of living adjustments to their salaries and condensing their work schedules. “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the firefighters for working with us on this contract,” Pamela Taylor, Human Resources Director for the city, said to council members Wednesday.

6 hospitalized after school bus, semi-truck crash on Wilson River Highway in Forest Grove

Multiple people were injured when a school bus and a semi-truck crashed on the Wilson River Highway (Highway 6) Friday morning. A preliminary report from Forest Grove Fire said at least four people sustained non-life-threatening injuries, though crews were still actively working at the scene. Emergency responders reported via Twitter that there were 30 students on board the bus, and six adults in total were involved.

Everett Firefighters put out a fire in a van along Hewitt Avenue

VIDEO: A van in the 1100 block of Hewitt Avenue was engulfed in flames Thursday morning. The fire broke out at 9:13 a.m., creating a big plume of smoke in downtown Everett. One fire engine was able to put it out fairly quickly. No injuries were reported, and there was no danger to nearby buildings, said Everett Fire Department Assistant Fire Marshal Steve Goforth.

New Ipswich (NH) Needs Upgrades to Its Current Facility

New Ipswich (NH) fire officials say their station has several issues, including health concerns such as mold, reports ledgertranscript.com.

They say the station can’t be expanded upon and it’s too cramped, among other things. Town officials are hopeful that some aspects can fall under the custodian’s budget, which was not used up last year, according to the report.

Town officials say it will take a few more weeks to go over drafts, and a budget hearing will be in January. Once that’s finalized, it’ll be voted on at the March Town Meeting—the second Tuesday of the month, the report says.
