Des Plaines (IL) Fire Station 1 Moving to City Hall

Des Plaines (IL) officials recently approved a $165 million 2022 budget that includes $8,460,000 for renovations at city hall and fire station 1 on River Road, as well as for the construction of a 22,000-square-foot addition to the police station, reports journal-topics.com.

Station 1 has served as department headquarters for several decades, and the plans call for the department’s administrative offices and record keeping to be moved to city hall due to flooding on River Road, the report says. The fire prevention bureau will remain in city hall.

The renovation of city hall’s second floor will cost approximately $160,000 and the station work will total about $825,000. Construction on the police station could begin in the summer of 2022, officials say.

Australian Apparatus Art: See Wreck Bay’s Unique Truck Design

The Wreck Bay (Australia) Rural Fire Brigade recently had two of its apparatus painted with Indigenous artwork that aims to show identity as opposed to ownership, reports abc.net.au.

Nikita Ridgeway, a Sydney-based artist and director at Boss Lady Design Communications, began working on the design eight months ago. Now, the two trucks have clear depictions of the landscape, flora, and fauna of the region, according to the report.

Jervis Bay Territory footed the bill, and the Wreck Bay Aboriginal Council helped get the project off the ground. Located on the South Coast of New South Wales, the indigenous community’s fire brigade is owned and operated by Wreck Bay Aboriginal Community Council, the report says.

Officials say Boggabilla Rural Fire Brigade—located on the NSW-Queensland border—also boasts Indigenous artwork on its trucks.
