Sultan Fire Department gets new fire engine

Snohomish County Fire District No. 5 firefighters celebrated last week as their brand new fire engine was blessed into service. The blessing was followed by a push-in ceremony, during which firefighters and firefighter recruits pushed the new engine into the apparatus bay by hand. The event was held at 6 p.

Mount Adams fire containment up to 83 percent

The Mount Adams Complex of small fires in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest was reported to be 83 percent contained this morning. The Spiral Fire, which burned an acre of timber in the Big Lava Bed north of Willard, has been put out. Crews are mopping up hotspots on the 63-acre Riley Fire, one of the small fires of the Mount Adams Complex on the west side of Mount Adams Wilderness.

Haystack Fire Near Mabton Threatens Two Structures

Yakima County Fire Officials say just after midnight on Tuesday, about 850 bales of hay caught fire threatening a nearby house and shop. When firefighters got to the scene at Hidden Valley Dairy on Bond Road just south of Mabton, they say 90% of the haystack was on fire. At first, crews decided to focus on protecting the house and shop that were less than 50 ft.

Okanogan County: 'It's a miracle': Teen girl survives plane crash, hikes out

A 16-year-old girl survived a small-plane crash that killed her step-grandparents in the rugged mountains of north-central Washington state and then hiked through thick forest to safety in what a rescuer called a miracle. Searchers still are looking for the wreckage, but Autumn Veatch says Leland and Sharon Bowman of Marion, Montana, died in Saturday's crash, according to Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers, who spoke with the girl.

SUV full of teens crashes head-on into minivan; 2 dead, 4 hurt

A minivan collided head-on with an SUV full of eight teens near Onalaska on Monday night, leaving two dead and four others hurt, and investigators say alcohol is likely to blame. The Land Rover SUV was heading east on Highway 508 with four 18-year-old men and four 13-year-old girls inside when it collided with a Ford minivan approaching from the opposite direction.
