Chicago Installing ‘Bleeding Control Kits' in Hundreds of City Buildings

The City of Chicago is installing hundreds of kits in city buildings to treat bleeding gunshot victims under a new program officials say could help save lives in an emergency. Chicago's Office of Emergency Management and Communications announced earlier this month that the city has begun installing 426 wall mounted "Bleeding Control Kits" in 269 buildings across the city.

Massive fire in Arizona prompted new push to inspect one city's recycling yards

In June 2021, a massive fire tore through a Phoenix recycling company. Hundreds of firefighters had to be called in to help fight the blaze, and it generated the largest response in Phoenix Fire Department’s history. The massive blaze at Friedman Recycling saw wood, tires, and other raw materials burn, sending a huge plume of smoke into the sky.

Spokane fire chief: Warehouse fire appears to be arson

Spokane Fire crews worked overnight to gain control of a large fire at an abandoned warehouse on E. Trent Ave. The former S&P Meats building caught fire around 8:30 Sunday evening. Flames could be seen from the roof. On Monday, Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaffer said the fire appeared to be arson. Firefighters worked overnight to get the fire mostly under control.

Northbound I-5 in Tacoma reopens after fatal semi-truck crash

All lanes of northbound Interstate 5 in Tacoma are now open after a semi-truck crashed into a barrier and caught fire early Tuesday morning. The crash happened around 2 a.m. near Portland Ave E. At one point, the crash closed all lanes of the interstate. Northbound I-5 fully reopened around 7:20 a.m.

Seattle breweries brace for hazy future as wildfires impact hops harvest

VIDEO: A scorching wildfire season continues to devastate farmers across Washington state, including those who grow and harvest hops, a main ingredient in making beer. The result is now having an economic impact on local breweries. Fremont Brewing in Seattle said they found smoke in their Cowiche Canyon Fresh Hop Ale for the first time.
