Drug overdose deaths top 100,000 annually for the first time, driven by fentanyl, CDC data show

America's drug epidemic is the deadliest it has ever been, new federal data suggests. More than 100,000 people died of drug overdoses in the United States during the 12-month period ending April 2021, according to provisional data published Wednesday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Washington DC Sees Uptick in Fire Calls to Encampments Impacting Homeless People

VIDEO: The nation’s capital is suffering a surge in the number of fires and fire department responses to encampments for people experiencing homelessness. A News4 I-Team investigation revealed fire department calls more than doubled at encampments already this year. The problem is posing a risk to the safety and health of people living in encampments and in nearby neighborhoods.

Spokane Valley Fire Department gets new devices to combat dangers of smoking, breathing medical oxygen

If you have family members or neighbors who breathe in-home medical oxygen, they can be at risk if a fire starts around them. These “oxygen fires” are often started when someone smokes and uses oxygen at the same time. The Spokane Valley Fire Department wants to raise awareness about these types of deadly fires.

Natural Gas Leak The Cause Of Evacuations In Hoquiam

An uncontrolled natural gas release at the intersection of Bay Ave and Ontario Street in Hoquiam resulted in evacuations on Tuesday afternoon. The leak was reported at approximately 2:15 PM as a smell of gas coming from a building and an uncontrolled natural gas release was discovered in a 2-inch Cascade Natural Gas service line.
