Luna Pier (MI) Fire Department has received a grant to buy new equipment and improve operations, according to a report published by the Monroe News.

According to the report, $66,426 was award to the department through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program and the Fire Prevention and Safety Grant Program.

The city is anticipating increased traffic with construction of a new international bridge on I-75 and the need for some additional equipment, the newspaper reported.

The Burlington (WI) Fire Department was awarded a $50,000 grant from We Energies for the purchase of safety equipment, reports journaltimes.com.

The department will use the grant to purchase vehicle stabilization jacks.

In 2021 alone, the We Energies Foundation has awarded $50,000 to 27 emergency response agencies across Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan via the Rewarding Responders Grant, the report notes. Other recipients of this year’s grants include:

• New Berlin Fire Department — Gas detector
• Oak Creek Fire Department — LED flashlights
• Paris Fire and Rescue — Ballistic protective gear and iPad mounts for ambulances

Five fire stations are being rebuilt and a new one is coming to Charlotte County (FL), according to a report on nbc-2.com. All six are multi-million-dollar projects with the intent to cut down on response times.

Of the six facilities, three are being built with funds raised from a 1% local option sales tax, while the other three are funded via impact fees, the report says.

The 1% local option sales tax is voted on every six years—for every dollar spent in the county, one cent goes to a fund for infrastructure. Projects are then submitted to a board, the board picks a list, and then voters can approve or reject the list.

Stations 3, 6, and the new 17 are all projects on this list; tentative plans call for 17 in the Tucker’s Grade area. Stations 2, 5, and 10 are also being rebuilt. Officials say those three are being funded by impact fees, money a developer pays to the county when they build, the report says.

The Millville (DE) Volunteer Fire Company (MVFC) on Tuesday received final approval from Town Council for its 5,000-square-foot station addition, reports coastalpoint.com. The fire company announced plans for the addition last month, and the project is expected to cost $2 million.

The addition to MVFC’s main station on Route 26 will encompass sleeping quarters for the company’s new live-in program, which, officials say, allows both volunteers and paid crews to sleep at the station.

In addition, the project aims to provide the company with more living and training space as well as for necessary emergency training classes. The project also includes significant renovations to the 36-year-old building, the report says. The kitchen will receive upgrades, and a new fire sprinkler system will also be added.

Officials say that a fundraising campaign will continue for five years. They add that the Community Heroes Capital Campaign will be separate from the company’s annual fire and EMS fundraisers—the funds from which go toward their operating budgets.

On top of the station addition, MVFC is looking to replace a couple of apparatus in the coming years. The company’s engine tanker is scheduled for replacement in 2023, at an estimated cost of $850,000, and, soon thereafter, one of its frontline engines will also need replacing at a cost of about $575,000, officials say.

Windsor (Wi) Fire Department will have a secondary station at Windsor Crossing after the village board voted to go ahead with the plans, according to a report published by the DeForest Times-Tribune.

According to the paper, expanding the resources by creating a new station, for DeForest Windsor Fire and EMS will provide the area with faster response times in the southern reaches of the district.

The new station will have four bays, training rooms and sleeping quarters, according to the newspaper report.

Among the next steps for the fire station to become a reality is the purchase of the land and then detailed plans for the project, the newspaper reported.
