Two Duncan (SC) Firefighters Sent to Hospital After Crash; One Gets Surgery

Earlier this week, the Duncan (SC) Fire Department had two firefighters sent to the hospital following a crash involving Duncan Rescue 13, which was responding to an accident on Interstate 85.

The firefighters were in the apparatus—which stayed upright for the duration of the incident—at the time of impact. Both were transported to Spartanburg Regional for evaluation; one sustained minor injuries while the other needed surgery on his back, which was performed shortly after arrival and went well.

“We would like to say Thank You to all the many departments that assisted with this incident today and ask that you keep both Firefighters involved in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy and full recovery,” the department said on Facebook. “Our Primary Unit will be down for quite some time so we would also like to specifically thank our neighbors at Startex FD for loaning us a spare unit so that we can keep ‘Rescue 13’ in service.”

Steamboat Springs (CO) Explores New Station Location

Steamboat Springs (CO) city officials have further explored selling the current fire station at 840 Yampa St. and building a new one at 137 10th St., reports steamboatpilot.com.

The location, where City Hall currently sits, would call for the construction of a new City Hall on city-owned land at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and 10th Street, the report says.

They said the current station location is too small and doesn’t handle the appropriate equipment or housing for crews.

City officials estimate the project would cost $18,726,978; though they say $4 million would come from the mill levy passed in 2019; $5.4 million from the Steamboat Springs Area Fire Protection District; $100,000 from solar grant funds; and $1.2 million from Department of Local Affairs grants.

The council has been in discussions about the move for months now, and the proposed facility would be about 17,500 square feet with four bays, living quarters, administrative offices, and building support, according to the report.
