A Hendersonville fire station received a SHARP certification through OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), reports ABC 13 News.

The program recognizes small business employers who have used OSHA’s On-Site Consultation Program services and operate exemplary safety and health programs.

There are no other SHARP worksites in Henderson, Polk or Transylvania counties, and only one in Buncombe County.

The Takoma Park Volunteer Fire Department expects their new engine will soon be in service, reports The Moco Show.

The new engine is a 2021 Pierce Enforcer, which is 10 years younger than the current 2011 Engine 702. The current engine averages 2,000 calls annually.

The North Bay Museum is restoring a 1928 Bickle Fire Engine, reports Northern News.

The museum posted to Facebook, “Earlier this year we shared photos of our 1928 Bickle Fire Truck Engine on parade in downtown North Bay. And today we would like to share a very exciting announcement … We are cosmetically restoring the Bickle Fire Engine and it will soon find a new home in our lower museum gallery!
The engine is being cosmetically restored by local restoration specialist Peter Martin. The Engine is an 800 imperial gallon pumper that was built by the Bickle Fire Engine Company located in Woodstock, Ontario. It was the second fire engine that the City of North Bay purchased.”

The fire department first purchased the fire truck in 1928. After being retired from active service, the fire truck was used in parades and other events.

Several businesses were damaged in an early Thursday morning fire in Othello. Adams County Fire District 5 responded to the structure fire in the 600 block of South First Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find smoke coming from the roof line of a commercial business, according to fire district officials.

A Boston fire engine is now in service in with a northern New Hampshire fire department after one of its primary engines was retired from service sooner than expected, according to a report published by Salmon Press.

According to the web report, the 2011 engine is on an extended loan to Littleton Fire Department to help meet the gap in its fleet while a new apparatus is on order.

The Boston engine is a lot like the out-of-service apparatus it replaces, according to the report, and Littleton firefighters have been outfitting it as needed and placing new decals an identifiers on it to match the community. The report said the amount of time Littleton gets to use it has been extended indefinitely.

The current chief reportedly said in the news article that having been in the fire service for a number of years, he asked the Boston Fire Department if they had any spare apparatus the community could purchase. Instead, Boston gave the town free use of the apparatus.

Voters approved a five-year lease for new engine in March and it was intended that the engine taken out of service was going to remain in service until the new vehicle was fully paid, according to the report.

The damage to the engine, however, was too extensive and, due to mechanical problems and severe corrosion forced it out of service immediately, the report said.

Littleton is planning to get six months to a year’s worth of service out of the Boston engine without any issues and, by then, it’s hoped the town finances are straightened out and Littleton can start on a capital improvement plan to replace apparatus as needed, the report said.
