North Carolina county EMS testing use of body cameras in bid to enhance training, patient care, safety

Robeson County paramedics and residents can feel a little safer Wednesday, the day some county EMS personnel donned body cameras in an effort to protect paramedics from assault and to provide the best care to patients. Wednesday marks the start of a 14-day testing and evaluation phase for six body cameras being incorporated into patient care, said Nestor Rivera, Robeson County EMS Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement specialist and paramedic.

Missouri first responders speak on Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District tunnel rescue

VIDEO: There was an intense underground rescue near St. Louis nearly 200 feet down at a wastewater tunnel construction site. One worker was injured. The site is part of the four-mile MSD Deer Creek project that stretches from Lemay through Shrewsbury to Clayton. The site was closed Wednesday after the accident, which was very scary for the injured worker and others who were trapped, plus two Shrewsbury firefighter/paramedics who went down to get most of them out.

From Massachusetts to Lebanon: Surplus gear donated to firefighters in need

The Middle Eastern country of Lebanon is a long way from the Hilltowns, but thanks to the internet, a bagel company and an enthusiastic young firefighter, firefighters in the capital area of Beirut are wearing gear donated by four local towns. And those who organized the donation are looking to send over even more.

Nespelem community in need of help from Chuweah Creek Fire damage

The message from people in Nespelem to Governor Jay Inslee, we need help. On Wednesday, he visited the town scorched by the Chuweah Creek Fire. Homes need rebuilding, fences need to be replaced and roads need to be fixed; Nespelem and the Colville tribes are in critical need and in recovery and repair mode.

La Crosse (WI) Fire Apparatus Dedicated to Former Firefighter

The La Crosse Fire Department dedicated a new fire engine to a local firefighter who died decades ago, reports WIZM News.

The new Quint 1 truck bears the name of Engineer Jim McCormick. He died shortly after experiencing chest pains at a fire scene on Thanksgiving Day of 1957.

The ceremony was disrupted in the middle of a speech by La Crosse Mayor when responders ran to the scene of a vehicle rollover.

The average vehicle in the fire department has a life span of 20 years.
