Darley Announces Availability of Smart Bottle®

Itasca, IL, July 13, 2021 – Darley, in partnership with KRW, has available three sizes of the Smart Bottle, a ruggedized, BPA-free, collapsible bottle that stores flat but stands upright even when partially filled. It is ideal for disaster response and emergency preparedness. Filled Smart Bottles are easy to transport and distribute via integrated top and bottom handles. Bottles come in three sizes: 1-gallon, 2.6-gallon, and 5.3-gallon.

Homeowners can maintain a stock of empty Smart Bottles® in less space than a shoe box for a family of three. Municipalities can preposition pallets of empty Smart Bottles® (2,400 2.6-gallon containers per standard pallet) which can be readily accessible for rapid fill and distribution during emergency operations. Three 2.6-gallon Smart Bottles® can supply enough water for three people for three days during a water crisis.

If safe drinking water is not available to fill containers for distribution, the Darley Safe Water Box™ is 2.64-gallons (10L) of premium drinking water in bag-in-a-box packaging. It can be stored for up to three years so municipalities can be prepared in advance for emergencies. The Safe Water Box ships 80 boxes per pallet.

Northeast Teller County (CO) Fire Protection District Putting New $330k Brush Truck to Good Use

The Northeast Teller County (CO) Fire Protection District recently took hold of a new, $330,000 brush truck, reports gazette.com, which has reclining seats, a refrigerator to keep food fresh, a pull-out table for writing reports, and a cabinet that holds luggage and equipment in a dry place.

In addition, the apparatus has room for all necessary gear, a 500-gallon tank, and comfortably holds all equipment. The apparatus was paid for by the county’s capital-replacement fund.

When not used in Teller County, the truck can be deployed to fight fires in other parts of Colorado, or Arizona or California. Officials say, for most deployments, travel time is six days to and from a site, with tent camping at night.

With each deployment, the district is reimbursed by the appropriate agency for the use of the truck and the crews. And because the deployments take them out of the district, the agency also provides reimbursement funds for the home crews that cover the vacancies at the Woodland Park station.

Sarasota County (FL) Emergency Services recently held the grand-opening ceremony for its new Station 13 on Siesta Key, reports patch.com.

The old station at 1170 Beach Rd. was demolished in May 2020 before ground broke for this new, two-story, 10,500-square-foot facility. It will house four or five firefighters at all times, as well as a truck, ambulance, and an ATV for beach incidents.

The new digs is modeled after Station 12 on Bee Ridge Road and Station 14 on Tamiami Trail near Vamo Road, the county said in a news release.

Some of the original brick from old Station 13 was salvaged and used in the new building for a historical touch, officials say.

Rocklin (CA) Fire Dept. Adds $1.2 Million Tiller to Fleet

The Rocklin (CA) Fire Department recently took delivery of a $1.2 million, 62-foot long tractor-drawn tiller aerial, according to a press release issued by the city.

The press release said the new aerial, built by Pierce Mfg., has a 107-foot ladder and is designed to provide 10 years of front line service and another five years in reserve.

As Rocklin has grown, the height and density of residences and businesses has also increased, sometimes challenging the fire department’s standard fire engines, the press release said.

While longer than the traditional fire engine, the tiller truck is more maneuverable. Its articulation allows the operators, consisting of a fire engineer in front and a firefighter in the rear to navigate the smaller streets and tighter turn radii found in some of Rocklin’s newer developments.

It is also equipped with the tools and training to assist Rocklin residents in a wide variety of emergencies.
