Yakima firefighters respond to 21 fires on Fourth of July

Firefighters responded to 21 separate fires within the City of Yakima; most of which were caused by fireworks set off during the Fourth of July. KAPP-KVEW’s Emily Goodell spoke to Yakima Fire Department Deputy Chief DJ Goldsmith, who confirmed that homes throughout the region were threatened by fires caused by fireworks.

Ephrata Pioneer Fire Company Ladder Truck (PA) In Accident

An Ephrata Pioneer Fire Company Ladder Truck was involved in an accident while heading to the scene of a structure fire, reports Local 21 News.

A car turned into the path of the fire truck. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital for injuries.

All of the occupants inside the fire truck were also taken to the hospital as a precaution, and were discharged without any injuries.

Rumford (ME) Board Chooses Possible Site for Fire Station

The Board of Selectmen has selected town land for a possible fire station, reports Sun Journal.

The project could cost up to $5 million and take two to three years. Town officials have realized the need for a new station since the 1990s but have been unsuccessful in three attempts to obtain funding. Twice, townspeople rejected proposals, and in 2009 the town was awarded a $3 million grant which fell through.

A town official applied for a $1 million grant for a training center through the Maine State Construction Institute. If it is awarded, there would be no cost to local taxpayers

The Shreveport Fire Department announces that the department has received three new fire engines, reports KSLA 12 News.

An event has been scheduled to show the public the trucks and show how the department plans to reduce firefighter illnesses and injuries. Multiple ranks of the fire apparatus committee looked at the best trends to see what will work for SFD.

Inmate Firefighter Takes Fire Apparatus on Joy in Shingle Springs (CA) Ride

A state prison inmate firefighter stole a fire engine in Shingle Springs and drove it into a ditch, reports Fox 40.

The suspect led California Highway Patrol units on a slow-speed chase before the engine ripped out 100 feet of fencing. The fire engine then ran into the yard of a truck rack company where inventory was stacked up, leaving behind a trail of twisted steel.

No one was injured other than the suspect, who suffered cuts and scratches. He had ended up in a ditch after driving out of the truck rack yard, severely damaging the engine.
