Volvo Penta-Powered Rosenbauer Panther Demonstrated at MINExpo

The Volvo Penta-powered Rosenbauer Panther was exhibited at MINExpo in Las Vegas, reports Mining.com.

The Panther is equipped with a Rosenbauer N80 pump that can discharge up to 9,000 liters per minute a distance of over 100 meters. The Panther also has 1,500 liters of foam onboard that is specially designed for fighting fuel fires and 225 kg of dry chemical agent used for fighting difficult three-dimensional fires expected from the massive mobile equipment used at mines.

Several Canadian airports, including Halifax, are also using Rosenbauer’s Panther.

Mount Vernon Fire Department spreads the word on fire prevention

Local fire departments are spreading the word this week about fire safety. They are doing so as part of Fire Prevention Week, a program now in its 90th year that is held in partnership with the National Fire Protection Association. “Fire Prevention Week occurs every year,” Mount Vernon Fire Marshal Barry Kerth said.

Hearing for Historical Significance of Greenfield (MA) Fire Station

A Greenfield Historical Commission plans to hold a public hearing on the historical significance of the fire station in preparation for its demolition, reports Greenfield Reporter.

The fire station building is not considered historic. The library, which was built in 1797, is considered historic. The fire station is on the same lot as the library.

The Historical Commission worked with the fire department to come up with a memorandum of agreement to preserve historic items. Last month, the fire department completed its move from the station into a temporary structure.

Grant Earmarked to Preserve Historic Atlantic City (NJ) Fire Station

An Atlantic City fire station about to turn 100 has been recommended for a $750,000 preservation grant from the New Jersey Historic Trust, reports Breaking AC.

If approved, the city will then match the grant, putting a total of $1.5 million toward the preservation efforts. While renovations are performed, the project plans would not require the companies to relocate while the work is done.

The fire station was originally designed to accommodate horse-drawn fire engines. The original stable building remains on the property.
