Two-alarm Parkland fire leaves 20 people homeless

A massive two-alarm fire that raced through the Aravia Apartment complex in Parkland is being blamed on a charcoal grill. A dozen apartments were affected, and at least two units were destroyed. Some residents said the sprinkler system never came on. They said that is why the damage was so extensive.

Spokane Valley apartment fire caused by barbecue, 14 people displaced

A fire at a Spokane Valley apartment complex Friday night displaced 14 people and severely damaged two units, according to fire officials. Fire officials said a propane barbecue placed too close to flammable materials on a second-story balcony caused the fire, SVFD said no one was hurt in the blaze.

Toddler found in burning Yakima duplex remains in critical condition at Harborview

A 2-year-old boy was in critical condition Saturday after he was rescued from a burning house early Friday in Yakima, where he had been left alone. The boy, who was first taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, was transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, according to Yakima police. Yakima firefighters, assisted by crews from West Valley, were called to the duplex in the 1200 block of South 41st Ave.

Lucy the dog alerts residents to house fire in Kingston

A 13-month-old mixed breed dog named Lucy is being hailed as a hero after sounding the alarm to occupants sleeping on the bottom floor of a Rash Road house as fire tore through its upper story in Kingston early Saturday morning.
