Quilcene Fire District asking for EMS levy renewal

Quilcene voters will be asked to renew the Emergency Medical Services levy for Quilcene Fire Rescue during the Aug. 3 primary election. The Quilcene Fire Rescue levy — written on the ballot as Jefferson County Fire Protection District No. 2 — is a six-year renewal of the current property tax levy of 50 cents or less per $1,000 of assessed property value, which, if approved, would take effect in 2023, Fire Chief Tim McKern said.

Major fire destroys multiple South Carolina businesses

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A major fire consumed multiple businesses along the 700 block of Johnnie Dodds Boulevard in Mount Pleasant early Thursday morning. Multiple fire crews responded to Lafayette Village sometime around midnight. Flames were seen shooting through the roof of Jean's of Mount Pleasant Bridal Shop.

Arizona fire robot to assist with hazmat calls

The Peoria Fire-Medical Department has purchased a hazmat robot to avoid tragedies like the 2019 explosion at the APS McMicken energy storage facility that injured four Peoria firefighters. The first of its kind in the United States, the robot was purchased with grant funds from the Tohono O’odham Nation.
