Rowlett (TX) City Council Approves Development of Fire & EMS Facility

The Rowlett (TX) City Council unanimously approved the development of a fire and emergency services facility within the Trails at Cottonwood Creek at the northeast corner of Stonewall and Vinson Roads, reports starlocalmedia.com.

A town official says that after development of the first phase of Cottonwood Creek, which houses 194 lots, there would be a need for first responder coverage within the area.

The neighborhood under development currently is serviced by Station 3 at Princeton Road. The travel time to Cottonwood Creek is approximately 11 minutes, which exceeds the national standard of four minutes or fewer for emergency services response times.

The developer, Warner Group, would provide funds capping at $850,000 as the development construction contribution for key items contributing to the construction of the fire station.

While there were questions surrounding whether the funds provided by the developer will cover construction, an official says the funds should be sufficient based on the construction costs of previous stations. The station is projected to be built by 2024.

Sheldon (IA) Fire Department to Lease a Pierce 100-Foot Aerial

In need of a new aerial following a March accident, the Sheldon (IA) Fire Department (SFD) has decided to lease a 2005 Pierce Dash 100-foot platform, reports kiwaradio.com.

During a recent city council meeting, and with SFD still doing its due diligence in finding a new aerial, the council opted to lease the unit.

Officials say Sheldon’s insurer will pay the cost of the lease, up to $100,000. The apparatus has been offered for a rate of $350 per day, plus a round-trip shipping charge of $14,800 from an Alabama dealer.

The council authorized negotiations with the owner for a more favorable lease rate, as well as to sign a lease agreement with the company provided the final costs don’t exceed the $100,000 for a one-year lease.
