Book tells tale of New York rescue-turned-firedog after becoming TikTok sensation

A rescue-turned-firedog in Orange County now has a book written about him - after the popular pooch became an internet sensation last year. Nick, the Newburgh firedog, is not only one of the guys at the city fire department, he's also an internet sensation on TikTok. His fame is due to Assistant Chief Tim Dexter, who posted Nick on TikTok last year, which got 86,000 views - and gave Dexter the idea to write a children's book about him.

New evacuations issued for Cedar Creek Fire in Okanogan County

New evacuations were issued Tuesday for the Cedar Creek Fire burning in Okanogan County while fire crews continue to make progress on the Chuweah Creek fire near Nespelem and the Red Apple Fire near Wenatchee. Okanogan County Emergency Management issued Level 3 evacuations for the gravel portion of Wolf Creek Road from SR 20 east to the pavement in Winthrop for the Cedar Creek fire, which has burned at least 8,400 acres since starting July 11 and is just 11 percent contained.

Officials: Total acres burned in 2019 fire season already matched this year

A charred landscape surrounded Washington State Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz on Tuesday as she visited the scene of the Red Apple Fire. Washington is seeing a historic number of fires and acres burned this season. So far, Washington reported over 900 fires statewide with an estimate of 140,000 acres burned, which is the same amount of acres that burned in 2019, according to Franz.

Brockway (PA) Brings Home First Fire Equipment

The Brockway Borough Council spent $400 to buy a hose cart in 1904 and has brought the equipment home, reports Courier Express.

The apparatus is a wooden cart that two firefighters would pull to the scene of a fire. It runs on two wood-spoke wheels and had a box for supplies, a place to roll up a hose, and may have once had a hand pump to pump water.

The Brockway Volunteer Hose Company, then called the Brockwayville Volunteer Hose Company, was founded on Jan. 16, 1904. The hose cart was repainted sometime in the 1970s, and various pieces were replaced to hold it together.
