Grovetown (GA) Donating Older Fire Apparatus

The city of Grovetown is donating one of its older fire trucks to the volunteer fire department in Kite (GA), reports WRDW 12.

The 1989 Pierce pumper can handle 1,250 gallons per minute.

Grovetown Mayor Gary Jones will hold an official ceremony on May 24 at the Grovetown Department of Public Safety Headquarters.

Winston-Salem (NC) Fire Department Works on Emergency Driving Training

Winston-Salem Fire Department does hundreds of hours worth of training each year, reports WXII 12.

The training includes emergency driving training in which fire truck drivers practice drills that can prepare them for any hazards or obstacles.

It takes 60 hours of training in order to drive a standard fire engine and another 60 hours to drive the long Tiller truck.

The long hours of training help payoff when the trucks must travel rapidly to emergency scenes.

Albemarle County (VA) Fire Apparatus Damaged in Accident with Concrete Truck

A vehicle crash involving a fire truck and concrete truck caused damaged, reports CBS 19 News.

The fire department posted to Facebook, “Albemarle County Fire Rescue Engine 121 was involved in a vehicle crash on Route 29 and Proffit Road with a concrete truck. Engine 121 was stopped at a stoplight at the time of the crash. The crash resulted in significant damage to the fire engine. A replacement fire engine has already been deployed while Engine 121 is repaired. There were no reported injuries at the time of the incident.”

Camas OKs consultant to review fire merger

The city of Camas has selected an outside consultant to review the merger of Camas’ and Washougal’s fire departments. The Tualatin, Oregon-based Merina + CO will meet with stakeholders, conduct a facilitated analysis of the decade-long partnership between the cities’ fire departments that formed the existing Camas-Washougal Fire Department in December 2013, and develop recommendations for the future of fire and emergency medical services in the Camas-Washougal area.
