Adairville VFD Purchases City's Original 1927 Fire Truck

By Brent Holman - For the NDL The Adairville Volunteer Fire Department, by generous support of the community, has brought home a piece of department and city history in the form of the 1927 General Motors Truck Corporation-Yellow Cab Company chemical fire truck that once served the city of Adairville.
Since the fire truck was decommissioned by the city in the 1950s, the truck has had several owners in Kentucky and surrounding states. For year’s stories circulated back to Adairville that the fire truck was still around. Given that it was common for these older vehicles to be scrapped, these sightings were significant. And as we’ll learn this truck was not only meant to survive but eventually find its way back to the town it once protected. One Adairville Firefighter who always wanted to find the old fire truck and bring it back home was Adairville Rural Fire Chief, Teddy Smith.

City on Track to Build Five Fire Stations

Lincoln is in the midst of a fire station boom. In early February the city began seeking bids related to five new fire stations that will be built in Lincoln over the next few years.

The city is looking for a contractor to build a replacement fire station near the Lincoln Airport and is seeking an architectural firm to design four new fire stations, to be built near the edges of the city.

One fire station, Station 11, is moving a half mile, from a building owned by the city's Airport Authority. The authority wants the building at Northwest 47th and West Adams streets for other uses.

The city is seeking construction bids for the station, which is expected to cost about $2.5 million and be finished by the fall, said Tom Casady, the city's public safety director.

The other four stations, expected to help serve Lincoln’s growing population, are part of a plan approved by voters in May 2015. Voters agreed to increase the city sales tax by a quarter-cent for three years to raise about $36 million for the fire stations and a new 911 emergency radio system.
