Jamaica’s Barnett Street Fire Station About 90% Complete

The Barnett Street Fire Station in Montego Bay, Jamaica, is about 90% complete, reports jis.gov.jm.

Officials said that some finishing touches are being added and, despite delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the aim is for an end-of-June/early July completion.

The construction costs $550 million, and officials noted that, so far, the project is within budget.

Fire Extinguished at Gloryhouse Foursquare Church in Olympia

Olympia Firefighters responded to a commercial structure fire at 620 Legion Way SE at 2:14 AM on May 1, 2021. The first engine arrived 2 minutes later to find fire on the exterior of the building. The fire was fully extinguished at 2:36 with minor extension inside the structure. The cause of the fire is under investigation and at this time there is no estimate on the total losses to the business.

Firefighters battle at least 15 suspicious building fires in Indiana

VIDEO: At least 15 buildings in Gary, Indiana were on fire overnight, forcing firefighters to call backup. At least a dozen different fire departments were at the scene and battled structural fires, according to the Highland Fire Department on its Facebook page. One of the houses that had already been boarded up had its roof cave in due to a fire.

Study: Volunteer Firefighters Have Higher Levels of 'Forever Chemicals'

Volunteer firefighters — who comprise more than 65 percent of the U.S. fire service — have higher levels of “forever chemicals,” per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), in their bodies than the general public, according to a Rutgers study. The study, which was published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, compared the levels of nine PFAS chemicals in the blood of volunteer firefighters against levels in the general population.
