Dearborn Heights (MI) Fire Department to Receive a $154,545 Grant

It was recently announced that the Dearborn Heights (MI) Fire Department will receive $154,545 via the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, reports arabamericannews.com.

The funds will be used to purchase a source capture exhaust system (SCES) for the department, the report says.

The AFG Program awards grants directly to fire departments and EMS organizations that are unaffiliated with a hospital to enhance their response capabilities.

Denver (CO) Donates $100K of Equipment to FD in Mexico

More than $100,000 worth of used fire Denver (CO) fire equipment was donated to firefighters with the San Pedro Volunteer Fire Department, in Coahuila, Mexico, according to a report published by television station 4CBS Denver.

According to the television station, more than 80 pieces of decommissioned extrication and personnel protective equipment were donated to help fight fires and save lives in Mexico. None of the equipment met NFPA standards in the United States, according to the report, so instead of discarding it or storing it, Denver officials decided to donate it.

The Denver and San Pedro fire chiefs were on hand for the presentation on Thursday at the Denver fire training academy, according to the report.

Ground Broken for Apollo Beach’s (FL) Station 29

Hillsborough County (FL) recently broke ground on Apollo Beach’s new Fire Station 29.

Station 29, which replaces its “much smaller, outdated” predecessor down the street, is 10,000 square feet and located at 6720 North U.S. Highway 41. It will serve the communities of Apollo Beach, Mira Bay, Waterset, and Adamsville. The quick access to U.S. 41 aims to improve response times.

The new digs will have three drive-through apparatus bays and be home to the battalion chief’s vehicle and at least 21 firefighters/paramedics working three 24-hour shifts. In addition, Station 29 will be the home of Hillsborough’s marine rescue crew, the report notes.

No completion date was given for the station.

Greenville (NC) Approves $5.5M Fire Station

Firefighters in Greenville (NC) will be getting a new $5,594,803 station after the city council voted unanimous for the project, according to a report published by WITN television station.

According to the report, Fire/Rescue Station 7 will be located at 4170 Bayswater Road and designed by Stewart-Cooper-Newell Architects. Muter Construction will build it, the report said.

With three bays, the station will be large enough to accommodate any apparatus in the fleet and it will have seven bedrooms, according to the TV station story. The structure is also expected to have built in training props and a training/meeting room, the station reported.

The new station is expected to be funded with a general appropriation in the 2021-2022 budget, according to the report.
