Voters Approve Little Valley (NY) Fire Apparatus Purchase

Voters have approved funding for a Little Valley Joint Fire District fire truck, reports Olean Times Herald.

Acquisition and equipping of the fire rescue pumper will require bonding for $50,000. The used 2010 truck will come from Ferrara Fire Apparatus and is expected to arrive in Little Valley sometime this summer. The truck will replace a 1994 E-One truck. The new truck has a six-man cab and more cabinet space than a regular pumper.

The total cost is expected to be $140,000, with the vehicle itself costing $99,000.

Dearborn Heights (MI) City Council Approves Replacing Fire Apparatus

The Dearborn Heights City Council has approved $658,897 for a fire truck that will replace a 25-year-old vehicle, reports Press & Guide.

The unit will be partially funded from a capital outlay account. The Fire Department has $600,000 in its capital outlay budget, but the fire department will not take delivery of the truck until the next budget cycle.

The fire department submits grant requests for new fire engines every year, but they haven’t had any success lately. This is the reason why some of the fire engine replacements have been delayed.

The fire department still has a need to replace another fire engine. The fire department is hoping the fire engine will still be able to be in service for a few more years.

Sikeston (MO) in Need of New Fire Station

According to a report from KFVS, concerns are mounting about firefighter safety at the Sikeston (MO) Department of Public Safety’s (SDPS’s) 80-year-old Fire Station Two on Main Street, which serves as the department’s main fire station.

SDPS Chief James McMillen says the station is literally falling apart, a hazard for the department since most new hires start out there. He says that the water of table is rising, seeping into the living and sleeping areas. Every time that happens, the officers have to mop it up.

McMillen also believes the building itself is shifting and causing cracks in the foundation and walls, which worries both him and city leaders.

McMillen noted that the department must make do with the station since the simply cannot move out; they simply need a functioning facility that keeps his crews safe as they work to do the same for the community.

TFT Releases New BLITZTAC™ Portable Monitor

Maximum Safety and Range of Elevation in a Compact Design

Task Force Tips revolutionized portable monitors over 20 years ago with the introduction of its innovative BLITZFIRE. Today, the BLITZTAC joins TFT’s product offerings with fire service best features that include the following:

  • SAFETY of your crew. Unlike competitors’ models, the BLITZTAC has a standard integrated safety valve that engages if there is unintentional movement, yet minimizes any water hammer.  Once engaged, the firefighter can quickly and easily re-align the hose line in an instant and regain full flow rate.
  • AGGRESSIVE and EFFECTIVE firefighting capability because the BLITZTAC has an attack angle range from a 10-degree manned attack angle up to 50-degrees.  That unrivaled range offers the ability to attack fire through a front door, a basement window, or even into a second story window.
  • QUICK, HIGH GPM, fire attack in a defensive or offensive position depending on the fire department’s tactical operations.  One firefighter with one hose line can be quickly deployed and used to deliver up to 500 gpm (2000 l/min).
  • A COMPACT, and LIGHT WEIGHT solution that allows easy storage on the fire truck, and insures QUICK deployment by a firefighter.
