San Juan Island children help stop appliance fire in its tracks

On Saturday afternoon, March 20, quick action by children, neighbors and San Juan Island Fire and Rescue prevented a small kitchen appliance fire from spreading or causing any injuries. While children were playing outside of a multi-family residence, they were interrupted by a loud fire alarm from one of the apartments.

But to the Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue crew — as well as local, state and national industry leaders — there never has been a problem with Chief LaFave’s ability to care. “His purpose in life was always, ‘How does it impact the citizens, how is whatever we’re doing making it better for the citizens?’” said retired Longview Fire Chief Phil Jurmu.

Homeowner burned in destructive house fire in Chelan

A Chelan homeowner has burns after a fire consumed their home Friday morning. At about 10:30 a.m., Chelan County Fire District 7 says they were summoned to a structure fire at 114 E. Center St. in the Lakeside area of Lake Chelan. The first unit at the scene arrived to see flames coming out of windows in the rear of the single-story house.

Benton County Fire District 4 shares how we can prepare for this wildfire season

The Benton County Fire District 4 shares how you can prepare for this year's wildfire season. Last year was the worst year on record for wildland fires in the United States many of which were in the Northwest. The Congressional Research Service reports that more than 58,250 wildfires burned 10.3 million acres, the most acreage impacted in a year.

Charleston (SC) Buys Land for New Fire Station

According to a report from WCSC, the city of Charleston, South Carolina, has purchased more than three acres of land for the new Charleston Fire Department (CFD) Station 23 on Johns Island.

The land sits near the intersection of Wildts Battery Boulevard and Maybank Highway.

Charleston’s Capital Projects Division is managing the design and construction of the station.

Station 23 will be the home of one engine company, one ladder company, and eight firefighters.
