Spokane firefighter being evaluated at hospital after fire in Hillyard

VIDEO: A fire in Hillyard sent one firefighter to the hospital Thursday evening. According to Spokane Fire Battalion Chief Jim Schaffer, the fire did significant damage to a four-plex in the 3000 block of Broad Avenue. He said the east and west side units on first-floor were heavily damaged. The west side unit only received damage to its roof through firefighting efforts.

1 injured in fire at commercial building in Olympia

One person was injured in an early morning fire that severely damaged a commercial building in Olympia. Crews responded to the scene, at 221 East Bay Drive NE, at about 1:30 a.m. Friday after a police officer on patrol spotted smoke and flames coming from a business there, officials said. Video from the scene showed large flames shooting from storage bins near the building.

SUV bought with stimulus money in Yakima catches fire 30 minutes after purchase

A woman's SUV caught fire on her way home in Yakima on Wednesday evening after she says she had just bought it with the money from her stimulus check. Firefighters responded to multiple calls of a car fire around 6:00 pm, according to Yakima City fire crews at the scene. The driver said she bought the older model Jeep Grand Cherokee for $1,200 the same day she received her $1,400 stimulus check.

Update: Some neighbors feared rural Kelso man accused of detonating explosives during standoff with Lower Columbia SWAT team

Neighbors described the rural Kelso man accused of detonating explosives that burned down his home Wednesday during an armed standoff with a SWAT team as both a good neighbor and “the type of neighbor you don’t make eye contact with.” John Threlfall, 41, was charged Thursday with first-degree arson, discharging a weapon, two counts of second-degree assault, drive-by shooting and hit-and-run from both a standoff at his home Wednesday and road rage incident Sunday that led to the confrontation.

La Crosse (WI) Presents Plans for Fire Station

The La Crosse Fire Department has unveiled plans for a new fire station, reports La Crosse Tribune.

The new facility is expected to replace the 81-year-old existing station. A revamp of the fire station is priced near $5.9 million, although pricing is rising due to the pandemic.

A task force has recommended modernizing all fire stations.
