Program in Spokane County helps first responders care for special needs children in emergencies

First responders are getting another tool in their toolbox. But it’s in the form of a note that will get to them before they get to your home when you dial 911. The Isaac Foundation created the Isaac Alert program with Spokane County Dispatch and Spokane Fire Department. If you have a child on the autism spectrum and other disabilities, you can sign up and put a note in for dispatchers and first responders for your home.

Alton (IA) Fire Station Plans Addition

A proposed 8,850-square-foot addition to the Alton Fire Station would include a new entrance, large meeting room, and space for larger fire trucks, reports nwestiowa.com.

A bond referendum vote is scheduled for this week, which would pay for the fire station upgrades. If the bond is approved, construction will begin in the fall and is expected to be completed by the fall of 2022.

The fire station was built in 1976. The current apparatus bay does not provide much room for training, meetings or fire equipment storage.

The bond would pay for the purchase of new equipment to clean and store gear. Alton relies on the Orange City Fire Department for use of its commercial washer to clean firefighters’ equipment.

Planning an addition to the fire station has been in the works for 15 years.

Pleasant Prairie (WI) Adding Fire Apparatus to Fleet

Pleasant Prairie is expecting a new rescue engine this week, reports Kenosha News.

The new engine from Reliant Fire Apparatus was planned last year and the $1,129,059 price tag will come from the 2021 budget.

The new arrival will replace two older engines that will be taken out of service. In 2019, a fire study proposed an aerial engine and the soon-to-be-delivered rescue engine were listed.

The fire chief said that acquiring fire trucks with purpose-driven strategy will help lessen the number of fire trucks needed.
