Gayville (SD) Fire Department Raising Funds to Pay Off Fire Apparatus

Gayville firefighters are adapting their fundraisers due to COVID-19 to raise funds to pay off a fire truck, reports Yankton Daily Press & Dakotan.

The new 2021 Tanker/Pumper will replace a 1970 tanker, marking a 51-year difference.

Usually, the fundraising event hosts more than 200 people at a large community-style dinner. For those who ordered meal tickets, they will be able to pick up their meals.

Gayville receives little in tax funds which mostly go to pay utilities and truck repairs. Fundraising efforts for a new truck began five years ago, with hopes of completion this year.

Brunswick (ME) Council Approves $9.1 Million Contract for New Fire Station

According to a report from Portland Press Herald, the Brunswick, Maine, Town Council on Tuesday unanimously approved a $9.1 million contract with Ledgewood Construction, a South Portland-based company, to build a new Brunswick Fire Department (BFD) station at the intersection of Pleasant and Webster streets.

Ledgewood Construction is expected to sign the contract today, and construction could begin on the single-story brick building as early as next week, according to Town Manager John Eldridge.

The station was designed by WBRC Architects and will sit on a 2.4-acre plot of land. The new station will be around 26,000 square feet in size and will have seven bays, community space, bunk rooms, kitchenettes, offices, and a BFD display museum.

Lisa Beeler, Ledgewood Business Development Director, the project is estimated to take around 15 months. Alongside land acquisition and other fees and services, the total cost will come to just over $13 million.

The old fire station, located at 21 Townhall Place, is 102-years-old and is experiencing many safety and storage issues. According to one town rep, discussion of building a new fire station has been a topic for about four decades.
