Hempfield (PA) Seeks to Purchase Tanker Fire Apparatus

Hempfield Township supervisors unanimously voted to purchase a Sutphen Monarch Heavy-Duty Custom Engine Tanker, reports Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The tanker will cost $753,000 and is expected to take between 15 and 17 months to be built. The fire truck will also be used by the North Hempfield Fire Station.

The township has been working to upgrade the fleet. Last January, older trucks were replaced by Sutphen SL75 Mid-Mount Aerial Ladder trucks, which can fight fires in residential, commercial and industrial buildings. This month also marked the arrival of another new fire truck.

All of the trucks were purchased from the Ohio-based Sutphen Corporation.

Bowling Green (KY) Sets Sights on New Fire Station

According to a report from BG Daily News, the need for more fire stations was among the main priorities for Bowling Green, Kentucky, city leaders last Friday.

At their annual retreat on Friday, January 29, at the Sloan Convention Center, city commissioners heard from department heads and offered guidance on strategic priorities, such as the new fire station, during the 10-hour meeting.

With first-term mayor Todd Alcott in attendance, Bowling Green Fire Department (BGFD) Chief Jason Colson presented the results of an analysis of the BGFD’s response times, showing the need for new fire stations in the Kentucky Transpark and Russellville Road areas.

Recently, Bowling Green was given two acres at the Transpark to be used as land for a new station, something Colson considered a priority project. He also said that, although Transpark receives relatively few calls, the area is growing rapidly; a 200-acre expansion is now underway, and the value of the property there is considerable.

Commissioners agreed to move ahead with the planning of the Transpark fire station, which would mean hiring an additional 15 firefighters, with a possible Russellville Road station also in the works.
