Due to the pandemic, the city of Tulsa took its annual surplus auction online this year, with items ranging from vehicles to lab equipment—the city is even selling a fire truck, with a current bid of $16,000, according to a report on News9.com.

The City of Tulsa’s surplus warehouse stores and sells all the city’s extra items that various departments—water and sewer departments, fire department, police department, etc.—have either replaced or no longer need.

The city made $1.2 million at last year’s auction, just in sales of surplus, according to the report. All the money goes right back into the city’s funds.

In a pre-emptive effort to combat his state’s dry conditions, California Governor Gavin Newsom is set to authorize $536 million for wildfire prevention efforts, according to a report on CBS8.com.

The money—part of $1 billion going toward firefighting efforts statewide originally earmarked for later this year, according to the report—will more than double California’s annual spending on wildfire preparedness compared to recent years.

The payment aims to provide additional resources toward thinning forests, carrying out planned burns, and building fuel breaks around communities prone to wildfires. It will also be used to invest in more equipment and more firefighting crews throughout the state.

The Norton (MA) Fire-Rescue Department has been awarded $14,985.57 via the Department of Fire Services Fiscal Year 2021 Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program for new safety equipment, according to a report on Patch.com.

The funding aims to allow the department to choose between 114 different types of protective equipment, including personal protective clothing, gear washers and dryers, thermal imaging cameras, assorted hand tools and extrication equipment, communications resources, hazardous gas meters, and fitness equipment.

SOUTH LOS ANGELES – It took the combined effort of 170 Los Angeles Fire Department responders, working relentlessly for more than four hours in a defensive posture, to fully contain and extinguish stubborn flames from an outside fire that quickly swept into and through a 300′ x 300′ one-story commercial building in the 8700 block of South Crocker Street on April 3, 2021, but thankfully caused no injury.

Though the fire was initially believed to involve only a furniture manufacturing firm occupying the expanse below three contiguous roofs, it was later determined that the fire also or instead involved a sizable marijuana grow operation, and possibly other businesses within the large connected buildings, which were very heavily damaged by the blaze.

Pursuant to protocol, the fire remains under active investigation by the LAFD Arson / Counter-Terrorism Section.
