South County Fire announces hiring of new assistant chief of fire prevention, deputy chief of training

South County Fire this week announced the hiring of a new assistant chief and the promotion of a deputy chief. this week: Michael Fitzgerald will be joining South County Fire as assistant chief of fire prevention and Battalion Chief David Wells has been promoted to deputy chief of training. Fitzgerald comes to South County Fire from Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue, where he most recently served as deputy chief of community risk reduction.

Washington COVID-19 cases reach record highs as holidays approach

Washington state health officials are pleading with people to continue social distancing as the holiday season approaches and the temptation to congregate indoors increases. The state last week saw an all-time high number of new COVID-19 cases, with nearly 1,500 people testing positive for the disease.

East Jefferson Fire Rescue saves man and dog

A man and his dog were uninjured after they were rescued from his moored vessel at the Water Street Marina. The fireboat Guardian and other units of East Jefferson Fire Rescue responded to a call for a vessel assist in high winds and churning seas at 11:57 a.m. Sunday at the Water Street Marina in Irondale.

Kansas volunteer firefighter killed in crash while responding to fire

A member of the Easton Township Fire Department was killed in a crash Sunday night while he was on his way to a fire, according to an official with the Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office. Johnny Ivison Jr., 23, rural Leavenworth County, was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash was reported at 10:07 p.
