They’re the first on the scene at major trauma events and this weekend, San Antonio firefighters, EMS and police officers were the first in line to give back to the community by donating blood. Conrad Gonzales, a retired San Antonio firefighter, felt he needed to step up when he heard that the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center’s blood supply continues to be at an all-time low, due to the pandemic.

Black Coffee Northwest in Shoreline, Washington was set to open earlier this month but had to postpone after they were hit by an arsonist. On Saturday, the news of their soft opening had spread and lines of cars stretched around the block. “As crazy as the world is right now this is just a breath of fresh air,” said Erwin Weary, the co-owner of the Black-owned coffee shop.

A house fire that took off in downtown Chehalis Sunday afternoon completely destroyed the structure and injured one person, according to Chehalis Fire Chief Ted Hendershot. The fire was reported at approximately 12:45 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Sixth Street and Washington Avenue where multiple fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze.

A small group of mostly volunteer firefighters armed with drip torches carefully set fire to a portion of Roslyn Ridge on Thursday afternoon. The plume of smoke rising up and blowing east away from Roslyn sent a clear message to members of a historic community surrounded by forest. Local and state officials understand the seriousness of the wildfire risk and put a priority on prescribed fire as a vital measure.
