Seattle, Edmonds men identified as victims in Langley plane crash

The two men who died when their Cessna crashed on Whidbey Island Wednesday morning have been identified. The pilot was 78-year-old Carl Dahlman of Seattle, while the co-pilot was 25-year-old Joshua McCormick of Edmonds, according to the Island County Sheriff's Office. The Cessna 177 reported to the FAA it had lost an engine near Langley Airport just before noon and were going down.

Emergency or work zones—Approaching—Penalty—Violation

Traffic Incident Management week (November 9 - 15)

(1) An emergency or work zone is defined as the adjacent lanes of the roadway two hundred feet before and after:
(a) A stationary authorized emergency vehicle that is making use of audible and/or visual signals meeting the requirements of RCW 46.37.190;
(b) A tow truck that is making use of visual red lights meeting the requirements of RCW 46.37.196;
(c) Other vehicles providing roadside assistance that are making use of warning lights with three hundred sixty degree visibility;
(d) A police vehicle properly and lawfully displaying a flashing, blinking, or alternating emergency light or lights; or
(e) A stationary or slow moving highway construction vehicle, highway maintenance vehicle, solid waste vehicle, or utility service vehicle making use of flashing lights that meet the requirements of RCW 46.37.300 or warning lights with three hundred sixty degree visibility.

South County Fire announces hiring of new assistant chief of fire prevention, deputy chief of training

South County Fire this week announced the hiring of a new assistant chief and the promotion of a deputy chief. this week: Michael Fitzgerald will be joining South County Fire as assistant chief of fire prevention and Battalion Chief David Wells has been promoted to deputy chief of training. Fitzgerald comes to South County Fire from Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue, where he most recently served as deputy chief of community risk reduction.

Washington COVID-19 cases reach record highs as holidays approach

Washington state health officials are pleading with people to continue social distancing as the holiday season approaches and the temptation to congregate indoors increases. The state last week saw an all-time high number of new COVID-19 cases, with nearly 1,500 people testing positive for the disease.

East Jefferson Fire Rescue saves man and dog

A man and his dog were uninjured after they were rescued from his moored vessel at the Water Street Marina. The fireboat Guardian and other units of East Jefferson Fire Rescue responded to a call for a vessel assist in high winds and churning seas at 11:57 a.m. Sunday at the Water Street Marina in Irondale.
