Suspect arrested after allegedly throwing flaming piece of lumber into Seattle police vehicle

Seattle police say a suspect set a police vehicle on fire Thursday afternoon while officers were inside. An officer in their patrol vehicle was in an alley between Dexter Avenue and John Street around 1:30 p.m. looking for a man who was allegedly brandishing a flaming piece of lumber, according to police.

Cowlitz 2 firefighters to use condemned Kelso buildings for training

Firefighters from Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue this month will use four condemned buildings in Kelso for training. The buildings, which are located in the 200 and 300 blocks of Southwest Fourth and Fifth avenues and on Catlin Street, will allow firefighters and officers to practice a “variety of skills,” such as emergency scene management, search and rescue techniques, roof ventilation techniques and down firefighter rescue scenarios, according to a release.

Mental health-related calls to 911 on the rise in Spokane: 'People are feeling overwhelmed'

Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer was driving home from work on Thursday, when he made eye contact with a man sitting on the railing of the Monroe Street Bridge. “We had a gentleman that was on the bridge,” Schaeffer recalled. “He explained he was in dire straits, lost his employment, lost his home, didn’t have any money, and didn’t have any way to access help.

Car fire spreads to six RVs, kills cat in Benton City

PHOTO: Fire crews have control of a fire that broke out at Beach RV in Benton City Thursday morning. Six RVs burned; two are considered a total loss. According to Benton County Fire District #2, a car fire spread to the RVs. No one was injured, however the campground’s manager tells KAPP-KVEW a cat died in the fire.

2 adults, cats safely escape Spokane Valley house fire

Two adults and their cats safely escaped an early morning house fire near West Valley High School. Spokane Valley firefighters responded to the home on N Sargent Rd near E Valleyway Ave around 7:20 a.m. A woman who lived at the home woke up to a strong smoke smell and noticed a hotspot on her ceiling.
