Preliminary results from an ongoing study suggest that those with a certain blood type may have some protection against the novel coronavirus.
In April, not long after the pandemic began, the genetic testing firm 23andMe began using its testing services to help scientists better understand how genetics may play a role in why some people who contract the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, develop severe infections, while others present only mild or moderate symptoms or have no symptoms at all.

Clark County Fire & Rescue (CCFR) Chief John Nohr will hold virtual town hall meetings to discuss the upcoming vote on the City of Woodland annexing into the fire district.
The meetings will take place at 7 p.m. on Tue., June 9; Tue., June 23; Tue., July 7 and Tue., July 21 utilizing Zoom. The contract to provide fire suppression and emergency medical services to the citizens of Woodland has been in place since 2013.

With the Pacific Northwest heading into what is predicted to be a severe wildfire season, Sen. Maria Cantwell asked for answers about preparedness efforts.
According to a release from Cantwell's office, during a Tuesday hearing she asked a Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources about how new technologies can be implemented to better help firefighters.

VIDEO: Firefighters battled a blaze that erupted and spread into a produce market in downtown Los Angeles Monday, the L.A. Fire Department said.
Propane tanks were seen exploding outside of the one-story building at 815 Kohler St., fire officials said after the blaze was reported around 3:20 p.m.
The produce market was open for business and people were self-evacuating when firefighters arrived at the scene, according to LAFD.
