Ohio firefighters reflect on past 50 years as community celebrates their service

It’s not very often that someone does a job for 50 years, let alone three people doing that same job for 50 years. But Thursday night, three special Columbiana County community members were honored. You see them in your town — men and women who drive around in the giant red truck to help put out fires.

FEMA leader: Scope of COVID-19 response ‘unprecedented’

131 new COVID-19 cases reported in Yakima County

The Yakima Health District reported an additional 131 confirmed cases of COVID-19 Thursday evening. YHD says there are now at least 4,234 confirmed cases in Yakima County. There are no new COVID-19 deaths. According to the YHD website, there are 42 patients who are currently hospitalized and 11 people who are intubated.

Failed bathroom exhaust fan ignited Vancouver apartment fire

An apartment fire that displaced three families Sunday in Vancouver was caused by a bathroom exhaust fan’s electrical failure or malfunction, according to the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office. The accidental fire at the Maple Court Apartments, 2402 E. Eighth St., caused nearly $53,000 worth of damage, Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli said.

Firefighters rescue man caught in Spokane River current

Spokane Fire crews rescued a man who got caught in the current of the Spokane River on Wednesday afternoon. Crews were dispatched to the Sandifur Bridger near People’s Park around 4:30 p.m. The man was in the river, roughly 25 feet from the north bank. The man was pinned by the force of the river against partially submerged trees.
