Redmond Interim Fire Chief Don Horton will leave his post next month after taking a permanent position as a fire chief near Atlanta, Georgia, where he can be closer to his family. The city announced Horton's resignation Monday, set to take effect on Friday, Sept. 14. Horton served as Redmond's Deputy Fire Chief for four and a half years and has more than four decades of experience in Virginia, Arkansas and Virginia.

Firefighters across Cowlitz County had a busy weekend battling several brush and vehicle fires, though no injuries were reported.
