A 12-year-old boy escaped a house fire by climbing out of a second-story window and onto the roof of the home Wednesday in Centralia, officials said. The incident unfolded just after noon at the boy's home on Kulien Avenue. The boy was home alone when flames broke out and woke him up. Apparently his only way of escape was through an upstairs window.

It was nearly a year ago when firefighters from the Peoria Fire-Medical Department in Arizona responded to a call about a brushfire northwest of Phoenix. When they arrived on scene, they didn’t find a brushfire, but a 2-megawatt lithium-ion battery installation with white smoke wafting from its vents and doors.

Selah Fire Department Firefighters are always teaching elementary students about fire prevention and safety. This year they are getting more kids in the community involved outside the traditional school setting. SFD teaches around 14 to 18 classes of elementary students from the Selah School District.

The University of Washington is rapidly expanding its ability to test people for COVID-19. A drive-thru testing site is already up and running at UW Medical in North Seattle that can test 40 to 50 people per day. Right now it’s only available to employees and students, but UW Medical plans to expand that testing later this week to include first responders, employees at long-term care facilities and UW patients showing symptoms.

PHOTOS:Four Arkansas firefighters were hospitalized after an accident on Interstate 55 near Marion on Monday. The Marion Fire Department was clearing the scene of an unrelated accident at the 24-mile marker of Interstate 55 when the department was “involved in an accident with a semi truck.” According to a Facebook post, four fire department personnel were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
