They're among the first departments in the Commonwealth to have their own underwater robot. Seattle Fire Department crews responded to a vacant commercial building fire in the 4200 block of Rainier Ave South Tuesday night. SFD first posted about the fire around 6:30 p.m. The fire was then upgraded to a 2-alarm fire. SFD said the front side of the building collapsed. SFD also reported that one firefighter was injured and was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

VIDEO: Authorities in Burien say an early morning fire beneath a State Department of Corrections building was intentionally set. The fire broke out around 6:48 Tuesday morning at the DOC Community Field Office on 8th Avenue Southwest near “Old Burien.” Flames quickly raced through three state-owned vehicles in the parking lot.

The way we are thinking about public safety in our communities is changing, and this is certainly true in Renton. During the pandemic, we saw our social systems tested and stressed as hospitals and clinics went understaffed and overloaded with patients. We saw our shelters for the unhoused reach capacity as they ran out of beds for those in need of a warm place to sleep.
