A mechanical engineer at the University of Virginia has built a semi-autonomous robot to help combat the coronavirus pandemic. A general alarm fire reported as the worst in the history of Kingston destroyed two lumber companies, four homes, seven vehicles and injured 21 people, mostly firefighters, on Aug. 9, 1964. A fire that damaged the historic brick brewhouse on the Deschutes River below Tumwater Falls Saturday night appears to have been intentionally set, a city official said Sunday. There’s no power to the building, spokeswoman Ann Cook said, which rules out an electrical fire. Investigators are looking into the cause and origins of the fire, searching for chemicals used to accelerate the fire and burn patterns.

A family dog was exposed to smoke but rescued by first responders from a garage fire Sunday in Woodland. Clark County Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched at 7:19 p.m. to a report of a fire at 169 Marty Loop. The first crew, from the Woodland station, arrived at the house in six minutes, according to a news release from the fire agency.
