The Yakima Health District reported an additional 131 confirmed cases of COVID-19 Thursday evening. YHD says there are now at least 4,234 confirmed cases in Yakima County. There are no new COVID-19 deaths. According to the YHD website, there are 42 patients who are currently hospitalized and 11 people who are intubated.

An apartment fire that displaced three families Sunday in Vancouver was caused by a bathroom exhaust fan’s electrical failure or malfunction, according to the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s Office. The accidental fire at the Maple Court Apartments, 2402 E. Eighth St., caused nearly $53,000 worth of damage, Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli said.

Spokane Fire crews rescued a man who got caught in the current of the Spokane River on Wednesday afternoon. Crews were dispatched to the Sandifur Bridger near People’s Park around 4:30 p.m. The man was in the river, roughly 25 feet from the north bank. The man was pinned by the force of the river against partially submerged trees.

A large regional fire and police training facility planned on a site between Conway and Stanwood could fill a regional need for nearby space to train and is expected to attract public safety personnel from across the Northwest all year long. “There’s nowhere really to train around here,” John Cermak, the North County Regional Fire Authority fire chief told the Stanwood Camano News.
