Just think that over a hundred years ago there was no cellphones, no 911 emergency system, no fire department as we know it today! If your home caught on fire, you had to rely on whoever happened to be nearby to help you extinguish the fire, then hopefully you were within reach of a pump, or a water resource.

New fitness program designed to improve heart health for Spokane firefighters

You have to be in good shape to be a first responder, but local firefighters are working on their fitness to prevent heart attacks in the field. In 2019, sudden cardiac arrest was a leading cause for firefighter fatalities, according to the National Fire Protection Agency. No local firefighters were part of that, and Spokane Fire Department wants to keep it that way.

Hanford Fire Department celebrates new ladder truck with housing ceremony

Hanford firefighters can now take pride in a brand new, state-of-the-art ladder truck. Representatives from the Hanford Fire Department and Department of Energy held a ceremony on Thursday to give the truck a proper “welcome.” “When we request equipment it’s a long process to get it approved,” said Captain Richard Golie.

Sprinkler system limits cigarette fire damage at Liberty Lake apartment complex

The Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to a fire at the Bitterroot Apartments Wednesday night, which was extinguished by a functioning sprinkler system. They received multiple calls of smoke and visible flames on the second floor of the apartments, with one caller speculating that it was a barbecue fire.
