One person was found dead after an RV caught fire in Everett Wednesday morning. A person driving along the U.S. 2 trestle spotted flames along Riverside Avenue and called 911 to report a possible illegal burn, according to Heather Chadwick with Snohomish County Fire District 7. As firefighters were heading there, a second call came in reporting a house fire in the 5300 block of the avenue.

A gutsy Good Samaritan who just happened to be passing by rescued an elderly woman from her home as it erupted in flames Wednesday morning in Silverdale, fire officials said. The drama unfolded at around 7:15 a.m. as a man who was taking his son to school spotted flames and smoke coming from the woman's home in the 10000 block of Frontier Place NW, said Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue spokesperson Ileana LiMarzi.

Several local firefighters who were heading south to help fight wildfires burning in California have been told to hold off. The Spokane Fire Department initially authorized three Type 5/6 engines, a strike-team leader and additional firefighters to staff a two-week mission. Nearly 200,000 people in Northern California are under evacuation orders as crews work to contain the Kincaid Fire in Sonoma County.

Clallam County Fire District 3 has announced that Stephanie (Gates) Anderson was promoted to career lieutenant at a ceremony Sept. 25 at Station 34. According to a press release, the selection process involves written exams, oral interviews and mock incidents. Anderson was sworn in by Chief Ben Andrews and had her new rank insignia pinned on by her husband, Travis Anderson, and her parents, Penny and Curt Gates.

With temperatures near freezing and wind chills in the mid-20s, a brush fire broke out Tuesday night, threatening several homes near Rock Island. The temperature was unusual for a brush fire — and so was the date. A start date of Oct. 28 makes the Webb Place Fire one of the latest in the past decade, according to state Department of Natural Resources data.
