Clark County Fire District 6 hires first female fire chief

Clark County Fire District 6 will make Kristan Maurer the first female chief in the district's history. She will be sworn in officially on Jan. 7. Just how rare are female chiefs? In the male-dominated profession of firefighting, there are only approximately 50 female fire chiefs across the 29,000 districts in the United States and around a half-dozen are in the state of Washington.

7 semis in Franklin County burst into flames

Multiple semis are destroyed after a massive blaze broke out at the Harms Pacific Transport property in north Franklin County. Firefighters responded to the fire at 3220 North Glade Rd. shortly before 10:00 p.m. Saturday. Arriving crews found semis on fire. Franklin County Fire District #3 upgraded to a second alarm, requesting more water tender trucks and manpower from fire agencies across the Tri-Cities.

No one injured in Lynnwood house fire that displaces three

No one was injured in an early-afternoon fire that damaged a tri-level home in the 5600 block of 169th Place Southwest in Lynnwood Saturday. According to South County Fire spokesperson Leslie Hynes, the fire was reported around 12:50 p.m. Hynes said “at least one person” was at home when the fire broke out, but got out safely.

Board approves contract for Bainbridge fire chief

The Bainbridge Island Fire Department has inked a new contract for Fire Chief Hank Teran. The board of commissioners for the fire department recently approved an updated employment agreement with Teran, and the new contract will run through Dec. 31, 2024. The board of commissioners last approved a contract renewal for the chief in December 2016.

Spokane firefighters to climb almost 70 floors in weighted gear for the fight against cancer

Spokane firefighters were raising money at River Park Square on Saturday for the fight to beat cancer. In March, those firefighters will climb 69 floors, wearing 60-pound gear, to honor one of their own. John Knighten served as a firefighter with Spokane’s Fire Department for almost two decades before losing his battle with cancer.
