Lake Wenatchee Fire & Rescue Selected for Recipient of DNR Surplus Engine

Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue (LWFR) is one of the fire districts in the state to receive a Department of Natural Resources surplus wildland brush engine at no cost. The selection process to receive an engine is based on fire districts that demonstrate a strong partnership with the DNR and also the community’s risk with wildland fires.

Fire destroys Whitman County grain elevator

Right now firefighters are looking into what caused a fire that destroyed a grain elevator in the small town of Winona just outside of Endicott. The first call came in just after 1 p.m. this afternoon with crews responding from all over Whitman County. A fire quickly engulfing a 65-year-old grain elevator.

Snohomish County: Fire District 7 asking to return levy rate to $1.50

Fire District 7 is returning to the voters to ask for a levy lid lift, after a summertime funding request was defeated at the polls. The levy on voters’ current ballots requires a simple majority to lift the lid for one year, then the levy rate will fall after that based on assessed value, said Heather Chadwick, public information and education officer for the district.

Firefighters save American flag from flames in two-alarm Washougal fire

During a two-alarm fire in Washougal that damaged several businesses, someone captured the moment when two firefighters took the time to save an American flag from the flames. The fire sparked by some sheets that spontaneously combusted at a local laundromat, according to the Camas-Washougal Fire Department.

New York increases benefits for families of fallen police and firefighters

A new state law increases benefits for family members of first responders killed on the job. The legislation, signed into law Tuesday by Gov. Cuomo, increases the cost of living benefits by 3% for spouses of fallen police and firefighters. “Police and firefighters who lose their lives in the line of duty are mothers, fathers, husbands and wives – and the family members they leave behind must be properly cared for,” Cuomo said.
