Semi-truck driver arrested for hitting ambulance at I-5 crash scene in Cowlitz Co.

A driver was arrested Wednesday after law enforcement says they hit an ambulance responding to a crash scene on Interstate 5. According to Washington State Patrol, no one was inside the ambulance when the semi-truck hit it four feet off the right hand shoulder of the highway near milepost 26. The semi was headed north on I-5 and crossed the fog line on his side of the road, hitting the entire left side of the ambulance, which was new, according to authorities.

Walk this way: Students, staff, leaders join Safe Kids Seattle-South King effort

City and school leaders joined the Valley Regional Fire Authority and Kent Police for International Walk to School Day with Washington Elementary students Wednesday morning. Escorted by police, a throng of students walked down East Main Street to school – symbolic of the Safe Kids Seattle-South King, a nonprofit organization’s effort to promote pedestrian safety and healthy behavior and prevent potential injuries from car-versus-pedestrian-type incidents.

South County Fire invites public to welcome new fire engine

The public is invited to join firefighters in welcoming South County Fire’s newest fire engine with a traditional roll-in ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 8 a.m. at Lynnwood Civic Center Fire Station 15. During the ceremony, those in attendance will push the new engine into the firehouse. This custom dates back to the 1830s and the days of horse-drawn equipment, which could not be easily backed into the station.

Malaga: Bulldogs Help Save the Day, Alert Homeowners of Fire

Chelan County Fire District 1 responded to a structure fire at 12:19 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The fire was off of Searles Road in Malaga. “When fire crews arrived they found a garage detached from a single wide mobile home with fire along one side of the garage,” said Chief Brian Brett. Crews were able to knock down the fire to the exterior of the building with minor extension on the inside.

Fire Destroys Barn in Olympia, But Animals Rescued

A fire destroyed a barn on Boston Harbor Road Northeast Monday morning, according to South Bay Fire District 8, but the animals inside got out unharmed. The road was closed for several hours, Lt. Robert Gormley said. About 10:30 a.m., fire crews were dispatched to the fire on Boston Harbor Road Northeast and 47th Avenue Northeast.
