Pennsylvania’s new fireworks law frustrates firefighters, police, residents alike

A Pennsylvania law passed in 2017 that finally allowed residents to buy aerial fireworks has increased both the number of booms and the corresponding noise complaints, sparking frustration among Lehigh Valley firefighters, police officers and residents. Allentown police officials said prior to the 2017 law, they would often respond to complaints by seizing aerial fireworks.

New Florida law benefits firefighters

It’s the battle firefighters face everyday that many of us don’t see – cancer. “I’m not a firefighter but both my brothers were and I know the risks that they take on,” said Travis Horn, spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Firefighters Union. Horn lost his brother, Lt. Michael Wayne Horn to Melanoma on New Year’s Eve in 2002.

Grant County Sheriff's office announces alert notification system specific for Gorge Amphitheatre

Heading to the Gorge Amphitheatre this summer? The Grant County Sheriff’s Office has set up an alert notification system specifically for the concert venue. Gorge Alerts are available through the sheriff’s office Nixle mass notification system. Alerts may be issued for concertgoer safety and emergency information, such as incidents within the venue and campground, according to sheriff’s office spokesperson Kyle Foreman.

DuPont decides against last-minute fireworks ban after intense weekend brushfire

The drama unfolded outside Patricia LeDieux’s window. “Smoke was just awful,” LeDieux said. She watched as firefighters tried to keep a brushfire from spreading into her DuPont neighborhood. “My neighbor’s daughter said gather up the photos we don’t want them burning, it was intense,” LeDieux said.
