For the first time since pay raises were re-instituted for city employees two years ago after nearly a decade without them, not everyone will be given the same hike to base pay in 2020.
An agreement with the members of Richmond Professional Firefighters Inc. Local 1408, the union that represents the city's firefighters, calls for a pay raise of 5% next year while the proposed 2020 budget includes a 2% increase for all city employees who aren't part of a bargaining unit.

Nearly 3,000 miles from Ground Zero, a City of Spokane Firefighter, Lieutenant Alex Mickschl, stands tall on a hill in Liberty Park.
He’s positioned right next to I-90, waving the American flag throughout the day; he does so with a sense of pride and patriotism.

The City of Hoquiam has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grants program (AFG FY 2018). This grant will fully fund the purchase of two new cardiac monitors in the Hoquiam Fire Department to replace aging cardiac monitors that are critical for providing advanced life support medical services.

The Department of Homeland Security has awarded Darrington Fire District 24 and Oso Fire District 25 a $593,110 grant to assist in recruiting and retaining volunteer firefighters and EMTs. The funding will be available to both for four years.
The fire districts rely on volunteers to ensure that their communities are protected during emergencies.
