Dry weather sparks preparations for wildfires in Olympics

As forecasters and fire officials warn of increased fire risk throughout the state this summer, the big fires most likely to be proximate to Kitsap County residents are the ones that start in the Olympic Mountains. Drought conditions persist in the Olympics, elevating the risk of wildfires and pushing fire officials in towns that border Olympic National Park and Olympic National Forests to be prepared for a fire season that could start earlier than usual.

King County: Fireworks determined cause in deadly Highline fire

Fireworks have been determined the cause in a July 4 house fire that left one man dead. In Boulevard Park just south of Seattle, a two-alarm fire broke out around 11 p.m. and quickly engulfed two homes trapping one person inside. King Co. Medical Examiner said 70-year-old Roland Kennedy died of smoke inhalation from that fire.

Search on in Kittitas County for missing off-duty firefighter knocked off paddleboard

The Kittitas County Sheriff's Office says an Auburn man went missing at Lake Cle Elum when waves and strong winds knocked him and a friend off their paddleboards on Saturday. Peter Phan, 34, and his friend were knocked into the water at about 2 p.m. A jet skier rescued his friend, who was wearing a life jacket.

Training Facility for Bryant (AR) Fire Department

 
 

The 2,270 square-foot steel structured facility will be located behind Fire Station 2 on South Reynolds Road.   

The building which will consist of 10 Conex boxes can be used for a variety of training purposes. 

"I've wanted to do this every since I've been here," Jordan said. 

Currently, Bryant officers must do training on parking lots or in apparatus bays. For other options, the firefighters have to travel to nearby training facilities.
