Debate Over Augusta (SC) Fire Station Location

Monday night, the city council held a work session to talk through a new site for the building. Previously, council members worked for the Flythe property on Georgia Ave. but that was recently tabled.

Now, they’re looking at the Clay St. Property, next to the SRP Credit Union on Martintown Rd. Ultimately, the council wants the new fire station to be moved from Buena Vista Ave. to a location farther up the hill.

Mayor Bob Pettit says doing so will be best for the safety of the community. “It’s on a major artery and the response time, and the coverage area would be much better than what we have now to a large portion of the city.”

Marion (OH) Council Approves Fire Station Floor Fix

In a 7-0 vote Monday, Marion City Council allowed the city to contract with Quality Masonry Company, of Marion, to repair the fire station's weakening bay floor. Marion City Council members Robert Landon, R-1st Ward, and Rebbeca Gustin, D-At-large, were absent from Monday's meeting.

The city fire department's ladder truck remains stationed at the Bellefontaine Avenue fire station, more than a year after it was moved there to prevent further damage to Station No. 1's floor.

City officials have been trying to fix structural issues at the city's main fire station, 186 S. Prospect St., since last year when cracks in the station's bay floor were brought to officials' attention.

Palm Springs Fire Station Reopens After Renovation

Members of the city's Twin Palms neighborhood and other adjacent communities got their first look at the newly renovated Palm Springs Fire Station No. 4 on Laverne Way Tuesday. It shut down nearly four years ago due to asbestos, lead-based paint and other hazards and a $5.2 million construction and renovation project began in May 2018.

"This was by far the worst (station). Firefighters were staying in trailers, because this was so bad," Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon said during a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by dozens of city officials, staff and residents.

During the closure, firefighters serving the southern communities of Palm Springs came from other stations across the city.

Alameda County (CA) Fire Apparatus Returned To Service

But there were reports that one of the Alameda County fire engines was involved in a rollover accident during the fire fight. The rumor was quickly stopped, however.

"Engine 320 wasn't involved in a rollover but it did get stuck in soft terrain and was carefully removed by Dozer 17 and a Cal Fire Dozer," the Alameda County Fire Department reported on social media. "... thankfully, the crew didn't sustain any injuries and the damage to the engine was minor."

California county secures crucial firefighting funds for first responders

Global climate change could make fire seasons more severe, and loss of critical technology more frequent, according to some fire officials. However, one Bay Area county is the first to secure funding for new equipment to help first responders in the event of catastrophe.
