VIDEO: Firefighters battled a five-alarm blaze at a commercial building in Mahwah shortly before 5 a.m. Christmas Day, working for hours to get it under control, officials said.
The fire occurred at the Arzee Building Supply Center at 37 Franklin Turnpike, Mahwah Police Chief Stephen Jaffe said. All five Mahwah fire department companies, township police and firefighters from mutual aid support from Rockland County in New York responded to the call, officials said.

The Pell City Fire Department is working on a new partnership with local businesses for 2020.
The department will ring in the new year with its new Fire and Life Safety Program. This program will mainly entail the inspections of all business in the city during the new year.
Ahead of these inspections, the city is also asking that businesses complete a few minor steps that will help both them and the department in the long run.

A Longview family was displaced from their home, just a few days before Christmas, because of a fire.
But everyone inside the house, including multiple cats and dogs, made it out safely. That's thanks to the teamwork of family and firefighters coming together.
Homeowner Roxanne Ponn said, first, her brother-in-law went through the downstairs window.

One man died and a woman was flown to a Seattle hospital in critical condition after a mobile home fire overnight in Sedro-Woolley.
Mark Anderson, deputy fire marshal for Skagit County, said firefighters responded about 2 a.m. Christmas Day to a fire at a mobile home park on Wicker Road.
When they arrived, they found a fully engulfed single-wide mobile home with two victims inside.

Christmas got a little brighter for six families in Richland thanks to the fire department. Firefighters came together and bought gifts for the families with money out of their own pocket.
"So these families are chosen either through churches, or through family friends or just someone is reaching out knowing someone is going through a hard time," said Peter Zukowski, a Richland firefighter.
