Massachusetts Town To Fired Firefighter: Sorry

Brookline will issue an apology to Gerald Alston, the former Brookline firefighter who the town fired after he came forward to report a supervisor had left a voicemail with a racial epithet on it. Town Meeting members discussed at length whether to issue a formal apology before the vote. Some argued it could hurt the town, which is still facing litigation from Alston.

VIDEO: Ride4Relief kicks off in South Dakota promoting mental health support for first responders

A nationwide "Ride 4 Relief" is kicking off in Sioux Falls Thursday. Jeff Shepard is driving through 35 states spreading awareness about the stresses and dangers police officers, firefighters and other first responders face and how they can affect mental health. "It's a sad thing and it needs to be talked and people to be aware of it," Shepard said.

Preparing for battle: Tri-Cities Fire Academy recruits turning up the heat

VIDEO: Sixteen recruits and a whole lot of dust. Wildfire season is here and local fire recruits spent Thursday learning how to knock out wildland similar to what we saw last year in Bofer Canyon. Richland Fire Captain Adam Hardgrove says there's just no substitute for hands-on training. "Let's see how it works, how fire behaves, so their first interaction with wildland fire isn't when it counts," he explains.

Update: Juvenile arson suspect arrested in Pullman trailer fire case

On May 21 at 10:05 am, Pullman Police and Fire responded to a report of a trailer on fire at 1155 SE Professional Mall Blvd. Pullman Fire Department firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, but the trailer was a total loss. Unfortunately, a dog and cat were killed. Investigators developed probable cause for arson after they ruled out any possible accidental or natural cause.
